When Should I See A Chiropractor?

People see chiropractors for many different reasons. If the problem can be assisted through having the nervous system in optimum order, then chiropractic can assist with it. Misaligned bones in the spine affect the function of the nervous system and cause inflammation of spinal joints leading to pain. When the nervous system isn’t working optimally, it gives rise to many different kinds of problems. Here are a few things to look for that may signal it’s time to see a chiropractor.

Neck and back pain

These two symptoms are the biggest reason why people see chiropractors. Studies have recently shown that chiropractic is one of the most effective solutions for low back pain compared to a host of different mainstream and alternative treatments. If you have neck and back pain after an accident, a chiropractor should be part of your treatment plan.  Treating bones that have become misaligned can properly align joints and decrease inflammation in the joint.  As the inflammation goes away, so does the pain quite frequently.

Tingling, numbness, and pain in the limbs

Problems in the spine can show up as problems further down the line. Sciatica can start from a misalignment of the bones in the lower spine. By relieving the pressure on the nerve, the symptoms cease.  These symptoms are similar to hitting your “funny bone”.  When you hit your elbow at just the right elbow, you actually hit the nerve in that area.  The impact causes pain down the arm and into the hand where the nerve goes.  The same is true with pressure on nerves in the neck and low back, pressure on these nerves can cause pain going down the arm or leg depending on the level where the nerve is pinched.

Migraines and headaches

Pressure on nerves can cause problems back in the brain as well. If you have chronic headaches or migraines, chiropractic treatments may be able to help with these symptoms. Many people have reported a significant reduction or elimination of headache pain after treatments.

Improving range of motion

Even if there is no pain, spinal misalignments can prevent you from moving your joints as far as you could. Athletes visit chiropractors often to ensure that the injuries they sustain from play don’t affect their performance. Many patients express surprise when they regain motion they forgot they ever lost.

If you have experienced any of these symptoms, especially if you’ve had an accident, you owe it to yourself to try chiropractic treatment. Contact you Fayetteville chiropractic physician for more information. We look forward to seeing you.
