Is Your Chiropractor a Whiplash Expert?

I wanted to take a few moments to talk about the Spine Research Institute of San Diego (SRISD) today and the significance of this entity.  It offers education beyond medical and chiropractic school to physicians who wish to focus on providing care to those who have been injuries in automobile accidents.  Frequently seen problems occurring after an auto accident can include, but are not limited to, the following:  whiplash injuries, headaches, back pain, neck pain, brain injuries, and possible sprain injuries in the arms or legs depending on the events of the accident.  The founder of the institute is highly regarded as one of the foremost experts on whiplash and brain injury traumatology in the United States.  He is the author for the guidelines adopted by the state of North Carolina, and well as many other states, for the chiropractic treatment of these injuries resulting from motor vehicle crashes

While graduate school can give doctors all of the tools that you need to be a sufficient physician, these courses can further improve clinical understanding and care planning for the doctor.  The course focuses on the mechanisms of specific accident types and what parts of the body each type of collision will place under stress and possibly injure.  It also focuses on the best methods to manage these cases to allow the patient to recover to the fullest as fast as possible.  Another area of concentration in the course is in the area of documentation.  Many people do not realize just how important it is to have a doctor who can document a case properly.  Proper documentation of patient care can insure that the at-fault party pays fully for the medical bills you incur as a result of your accident.

I completed these courses in May of this year and am now one of only two Fayetteville chiropractors to have completed these intensive courses.  Dr. Brad Johnson of the Premier Chiropractic group completed these same courses in 2010.  Dr. James Miller and Dr. David G.T. Pace have also both graduated from the courses in the past and have continued on to receive Advanced Certification through SRISD last fall.  Dr. Miller and Dr. Pace are at this time two of only 12 Physicians in the state of North Carolina to attained this certification at this time.  Dr. McDowell and Dr. Johnson have aspirations of pursuing advanced certifications over the next year or two.  You can see more information about our chiropractors at the Premier Chiropractic website.
